Gen. David H. Berger, the commandant of the Marine Corps, believes the service needs more amphibious warships – the sooner the better. Seapower magazine reported Feb. 13 that Berger says the ships are necessary in order to meet commitments to the National Defense Strategy. Development measures that are hindering their production must be eliminated, Berger told a congressional forum, according to Seapower.
“We have to accelerate production now. We cannot wait for or five years to begin,” Berger told the audience.
