The Defense Commissary Agency announced that military commissaries would continue to accept gift certificates issued by the CertifiChecks Inc., the Dayton, Ohio-based company that had provided them from 2002 until it ceased operations in February. When the company first announced it was shutting down, DeCA had said the gift certificates would no longer be valid. Instead, customers can continue using them at stores. DeCA will absorb the losses. Customers have purchased more than $20 million worth of gift certificates from CertifiChecks since 2002, including more than $3.9 million last year, according to DeCA.
