The Army wants to close its community theaters in Europe. Stars and Stripes reported July 7 that funding for the theaters has been eliminated. Unless some means of coming up with the cost of producing the theaters’ musicals and plays – they cost $1.96 million last year – they will go dark on Oct. 1, when fiscal year 2017 begins. The theaters have been in operation for more than 60 years, and are considered to be the world’s largest producer of such stage productions.
