Although some applications have been denied, officials insist that thousands of potentially eligible retirees have not applied for Combat Related Special Compensation. The CRSC staff reports, for example, that some 15,000 Air Force applications they have processed have “only scratched the surface” of an estimated 200,000-member retired Air Force population that may be eligible for CRSC. “Most veterans I met at the ceremony were not aware of CRSC,” said Ms. Ruth Relyea, a CRSC data entry and customer service specialist speaking at a Defense Department ceremony in San Antonio. CRSC allows some disabled military retirees, who served at least 20 years and who are eligible for both military retired pay and Veterans Administration disability compensation, to receive both under certain guidelines.
