Third-party scammers are using references to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) and the myPay system to prey upon service members via the Internet, the Army Criminal Investigation Command advised. In July, an application called “MyPay DFAS LES” became available for free via the Google Play Android App Store. The app is not endorsed or sponsored by either the Defense Department or DFAS. The app allows users to gain access and update their individual accounts. Google Play estimates that between 10,000 and 50,000 service members have downloaded the app. Defense paymasters and law-enforcement agencies urge all service members and civilian employees to verify any such app before downloading it on their personal devices.
