The Defense Health Agency is offering buyouts to more than 700 civilian employees. Those who accept would receive lump-sum payouts, according to a report published by Stars and Stripes.

Interested employees were required to submit their applications for the buyouts shortly after the announcement was put forth. Stars and Stripes reported that DHA did not provide further details of the conditions the buyouts would entail.

The Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment Authority, the agency that handles such buyout plans throughout the federal government, is handling the plan. It is authorized to offer employees a one-time payment of $25,000 to leave their jobs.

Lawmakers have expressed concerns that the cutbacks could adversely affect delivery of health care to service members, their dependents and other beneficiaries of the military health care system.
