The Navy commissioned its latest guided-missile destroyer, the Michael Murphy, during an Oct. 6 ceremony at a Manhattan pier. The ship is named after Lt. Michael Murphy, the Navy SEAL who received a posthumous Medal of Honor for heroism he displayed during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in June 2005. Michael Murphy, an Arleigh Burke-class vessel, carries a crew of 279 officers and sailors, and will be homeported at Pearl Harbor Naval Station, Hawaii.
