The Defense Department has made an administrative change to its policy on homosexuals. Instead of classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder it now calls it a defect. As a defect it falls in the came category as sleepwalking, dyslexia, stammering or stuttering. The change does not affect the don’t ask, don’t tell policy, which allows homosexuals to serve if they do not disclose their sexual orientation. It also continues to allow them to be separated from the service under honorable conditions, which would qualify them for possible veterans’ disability benefits.
