By: FEDweek StaffThe Marine Corps is inviting enlisted active duty and ready reserve members with good service records and academic credentials to apply to the U.S. Naval Academy.
“Among each [Naval Academy] class is a corps of prior-enlisted Marines who infuse peer-level Marine Corps experience into the Brigade of Midshipmen,” the service stated in an announcement to all hands. “Commanding officers are encouraged to identify motivated enlisted Marines who meet the criteria.”
Successful candidates for admission to the academy’s class of 2029 would:
· Be able to show they are “top quality.”
· Have finished high school with good grade point averages – at minimum in the top 40 percent of their class.
· Have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) within the past two years (encouraged but not mandatory). Or, have taken the American College Test (ACT) within the past two years and scored at least 22 in English and 24 in math.
· Typically completed four years of mathematics, English and chemistry. “Exposure to physics, calculus history and two years of a foreign language are recommended.” Backgrounds in trigonometry, pre-calculus and sciences are also encouraged.
· If possible, complete college courses that “display current academic ability.”
· Be of good moral character and show “unquestionable loyalty to the United States.”
· Have no record of either non-judicial (under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice) or conviction in a civil court except for minor traffic violations.
· Be in very good physical condition with high scores in both the Physical Fitness Test and the Combat Fitness Test.
· Be under age 23 as of July 1 of the year of admission to the academy.
· Be unmarried, have no parental obligations, and not be pregnant.
