The decade-long era in which the Navy patrolled the seas with impunity is no more, according to the chief of U.S. Fleet Forces Command. “It was an aberration that we were unchallenged in the maritime domain,” Adm. Phil Davidson told an audience at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., June 24. “With threats from the bottom of the sea to space and cyberspace now, we have to be able to cope with that operationally,” Davidson said, as reported by Seapower Magazine. Davidson specifically cited threats posed by Russia and China.
