William Swenson, a former Army captain, will receive the Medal of Honor from President Obama for his heroic actions during combat operations in Afghanistan on Sept. 8, 2009. At the time, Swenson was an embedded trainer and mentor for Afghan security forces. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. The fighting took place in the country’s Kunar province. Swenson, who lives in Seattle, left the Army in February 2011.
