The Navy has issued information about when and where the new Navy Working Uniform can be worn, and when the fleet can expect it to arrive. The NWU will replace working utility, tropical working, wash khaki, winter working blue, aviation working green, and non-tactical and environmental use of camouflage utility uniforms in both sea and shore assignments that do not require special uniforms. The NWU is being phased in beginning this month and will continue for two years. More details are spelled out in NAVADMIN 343/08, and an instructional video is available on the Web at www.npc.navy.mil/commandsuppport/usnavyuniforms/. Among the guidelines:

* Sailors and officers can wear it while commuting to and from work, but cannot make "routine stops" except in emergencies;

* While in workspaces, personnel can wear the trousers without the blouses;

* The uniform has a parka hood available to augment headgear during cold or inclement weather.
