The Fort Hood, Texas-based 4th Combat Aviation Brigade will deploy to Afghanistan sometime this summer, the Pentagon announced Jan. 12. The 2,600-member unit is the largest of several tapped for combat tours in Afghanistan, as part of the 30,000-man surge authorized by President Obama last year. The Pentagon also said that another 500 service members would be mobilized to perform support missions for the 4th CAB, but did not specify whether those troops would be placed in Afghanistan.
