Effective Oct. 1, Marine rifle qualification scores will be tallied from a combination of known-distance firing scores (Table 1 firing) and scores from field firing from different positions at multiple targets from ranges of 25 to 100 yards. Currently the Table 2 field-firing results are scored only pass or fail, with a fail capping the Marine’s known-distance score at the minimum passing score of 190. During field-firing, shooters will be required to wear minimum combat gear, including helmet, body armor, and the type weapon they will carry in combat. Marines also can expect results of the Table 3, unit-scheduled firing to be forwarded up the chain of command.
