The first Marine Corps units are starting to receive the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), the replacement for the Humvee. The service reported that the vehicle reached initial operational capability on Aug. 2 – a year ahead of schedule.
The new vehicles are headed to the School of Infantry East at Camp Lejeune, N.C., School of Infantry West at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Basic School at Quantico, Va., and the Motor Transport Maintenance Instruction Course at Camp Johnson, N.C. An infantry battalion at II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) began taking delivery in July. I MEF and II MEF should begin fielding the JLTV before the end of next month.
