The Marine Corps must resort to relying upon retired aircraft for spare parts and flyable aircraft. CNN reported July 14 that the service had to return 23 retired F/A-18 Hornets to service in order to overcome a shortage of operational aircraft. The planes were stored outside at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center in Arizona – familiarly known as the “boneyard.”
