The Marine Corps issued a service-wide announcement, clarifying when members can and cannot receive compensation to offset the expenses associated with permanent-change-of-station (PCS) moves. Under MARADMIN 275/12, viewable online at www.marines.mil, low-cost PCS moves involve transfer to duty stations in close proximity to prior duty stations. No-cost PCS transfers involve movement to new duty at the same installation, or one in very close proximity. Marines moving under no-cost PCS transfers are not entitled to government reimbursement for shipment of household goods. Any PCS transfer involving a move of 51 miles, measured from the old and new installations’ main gates, qualifies for full funding of relocation expenses. Marines who believe a no-cost PCS move presents undue hardship can apply for waivers. The all-service announcement includes provisions under which such waivers may be granted.
