Service members and their families who are facing permanent changes of station should take advantage of the new Personally Procured Move (PPM) system in order to receive due compensation for moving expenses, officials with U.S. Transportation Command say. Under PPM, which is replacing the old “Do It Yourself” (DITY) system, the government will compensate service members for as much as 95 percent of the cost it would have paid to ship household goods commercially. Recipients then can either use the money to pay movers, or pack and move the goods themselves and reap the savings. Another new program, the Defense Personal Property System, allows service members to account for, track, schedule, file invoices or claims, and receive advice regarding their household goods automatically.
