During the week of Feb. 5-9, Air Force commanders were to have been notified which of their officers may be subject to the Reduction in Force board in June. And on Feb. 15, affected officers were scheduled to receive their officer pre-selection brief, which is the summary of their records that will go before the board when it convenes June 11-29. Retention recommendation forms will be due from commanders to any officers still eligible for RIF on April 11. Air Force leaders have advised commanders to give RIF-eligible officers the best assessment of how likely they are to be separated by the RIF board — and give them the option of applying for Voluntary Separation Pay before the March 31 deadline. Officers who are separated through RIF will receive the standard involuntary separation pay, while officers who take the VSP will get twice that amount.
