A board will begin considering applications for commissions from enlisted TAR (training and administration of the reserves) sailors on Nov. 13.

The TAR sailors who submitted their applications come from the enlisted, chiefs’ mess, command triad and career counselor ranks. They will be considered for positions within the surface warfare, human resources, permanent professional recruiter, supply, and aerospace engineering duty-aviation maintenance communities.

Applicants are required to have at least six months’ service as TAR sailors and successfully completed initial training requirements, hold a bachelor’s degree, submit their college transcripts, and have an officer aptitude rating (OAR). Commissioning physicals must be completed within three months of Nov. 13, the date the board convenes.

Sailors could apply for as many as three designators, but would have to meet qualifications for each community. They do not, however, have to have enlisted warfare qualifications.
