Some very good and very lucky sailors will get a chance to view a NASCAR race from a perch typically available only to insiders. In conjunction with JR Motorsports, the Navy announced Jan. 25 that it is seeking nominations for its 2008 Fleet Honoree Program. Throughout the 33-week NASCAR Nationwide Series season, six sailors from the Navy’s top-performing commands will be chosen to attend a race as the guests of JR Motorsports and its most famous driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. They will get pre-race garage tours of the watch the race from the team pit area, and two of them will serve as honorary pit crew members and meet Dale Jr. as well. Earnhardt’s car will carry the name of each winning command. For more information, visit www.cnrc.navy.mil/motorsports.htm. Nominations are due by Feb. 20.
