The Navy Expeditionary Combat Command will establish a new Coastal Riverine Force (CORIVFOR), which will perform missions that fall between those of brown-water and blue-water assets. Two existing units – Riverine Group 1 and the Maritime Expeditionary Security Force (MESF) – will be unified to form the new command. Its missions will involve port and harbor security, as well as offshore protection of marine infrastructure and Military Sealift Command ships as they operate near coastlines. Subordinate units will be based at Imperial Beach Calif., with squadrons stationed in San Diego, and Portsmouth, Va., with squadrons situated at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Little Creek-Fort Story. Another squadron will be forward-deployed to Bahrain. Reserve squadrons will be based at Newport, R.I., and Jacksonville, Fla.
