Navy Exchange Recovery Update

As of Sept. 8, NEXs and Navy Lodges were fully operational at Key West, Pensacola Mall, Pensacola Aviation Plaza, Whiting Field, Fla., and Meridian, Miss., as was the Southeast Distribution Center. At Naval Support Activity New Orleans, La., the main Navy Exchange was functioning on emergency power. The mini-mart at Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, Belle Chasse, La., was expected to open Sept. 9. The mini-mart and gas station at NEX Gulfport, Miss., were open. The NEX Gulfport team was striving to open the Navy Exchange and Navy Lodge as soon as possible. Although exchange facilities at NEX Pascagoula and NEX Stennis, Miss., were intact, they were expected to be closed indefinitely. All open NEX gas stations were currently providing service to relief efforts. Except for gas stations at Naval Support Activity New Orleans, Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, and those in the Pensacola area, all were rationing fuel at 10 gallon limits.
