The Navy has moved its Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) School to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H., to conform to guidelines established by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC). The institution had been located at Brunswick Naval Air Station, Maine, which is slated for closure under BRAC. The school, which teaches students how to best manage survival, evade and capture, and resist interrogation, trains some 1,200 students annually and employs roughly 100 civilian and military personnel.
