The online Travel Risk Planning System will help Sailors plan their travel, prepare a risk assessment of the trip, and offer automated suggestions for safety improvement. TRiPS originated as an Army program called ASMIS, and has been modified to the new Navy and Marine Corps version. It offers users a risk assessment of their trip by asking them questions about travel plans and questions about the amount of sleep expected before a trip, medications the driver might be taking, seatbelt use, and rest stops planned. Once the survey is completed, the level of risk is presented on a risk matrix ranging from extremely high to extremely low. TRiPS also offers a mapping product similar to the Mapquest program, and will even print a leave form for the user. To access the program, visit www.safetycenter.navy.mil, click on the TRiPS link, and register.
