The Coastal Riverine Forces moniker is gone. The Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) announced Sept. 17 that the organization will be known as Maritime Expeditionary Security Forces. The command’s web site states that the new name better reflects its evolving mission, to include supporting blue-water operations as well as legacy riverine roles.

“The change to Maritime Expeditionary Security Force clearly articulates the mission of our sailors to reinforce lethality in the blue water and dominate in the littorals,” said Rear Adm. Joseph DiGuardo, NECC commander.
Core missions – security to ports and harbors, high-value assets, coastal and inland waterways and contested operations in littoral environments – will continue.
