Nine soldiers died June 2 when their Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) overturned in a flash flood at Fort Hood, Texas. Three other soldiers were rescued. The incident occurred as the LMTV was trying to negotiate a water crossing during heavy rains. The Army identified the victims as: Staff Sgt. Miguel Angel Colonvazquez, 38, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Spec. Christine Faith Armstrong, 27, of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; Spec. Yingming Sun, 25, of Monterey Park, Calif.; PFC Brandon Austin Banner, 22, of Milton, Fla.; PFC Zachery Nathaniel Fuller, 23, of Palmetto, Fla.; Pvt. Isaac Lee Deleon, 19, of San Angelo, Texas; Pvt. Eddy Raelaurin Gates, 20, of Dunn, N.C.; Pvt. Tysheena Lynette James, 21, of Jersey City, N.J.; and Mitchell Alexander Winey, 21, of Valparaiso, Ind., a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy. A team from the Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker, Ala., will conduct an investigation into the incident.
