The Pentagon has issued a memo requiring the systematic removal and archiving of news articles, photos and videos promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including content related to critical race theory, gender ideology, and identity-based programs.

According to the Digital Content Refresh memo, the Defense Media Activity (DMA) will support removal from DVIDS and AFPIMS platforms, but Components remain responsible for ensuring compliance across all digital properties.

Exceptions or extension requests must be submitted before noon on March 5, 2025.

Articles, photos, and videos from the last four years are considered immediate priority, but any DEI-related content outside of the Biden Administration’s term must also be removed, according to the memo. It further defines DEI-content as “information that promotes programs, concepts or materials about critical race theory, gender ideology, and preferential treatment or quotas based upon sex, race or ethnicity, or other DEI-related matters with respect to promotion and selection reform, advisory boards, councils and working groups.” Content promoting “cultural awareness months” must also be removed, as outlined in an earlier memo, “Identity Months Dead at DoD.”
