The Navy is standardizing its online pre-separation checklist, to help separating sailors make a smoother transition to life out of uniform. Navy Career Counselors and sailors alike are receiving guidance from the Navy Personnel Command, which outlines how to download the checklists for active and reserve sailors who are released from active duty. Sailors who have served for more than 180 days should receive transition counseling no later than 90 days before their projected separation or retirement dates. Downloads suitable for scanning are available online at http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/dd/ddforms2500-2999.htm.
