Ground was broken Sept. 22 at Brook Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for two 21-bedroom Fisher Houses and a rehabilitation center funded by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The $40 million lodging complex and rehabilitation center will serve troops and veterans who have sustained severe injuries requiring extensive medical care and therapy. The two 21-bedroom houses will run about $5.1 million and will be the largest ever built by the foundation. They will provide lodging for families of severely wounded service members as they work their way through the recovery process. The Fisher House Foundation and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund are non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. They are managing the project in cooperation with the secretaries of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and the Army and the Army, Navy and Air Force surgeons general.
