Funding constraints have driven the Navy Personnel Command (NPC) to shorten lead times for sailors to receive permanent-change-of-station (PCS) orders. As such, in the near future, sailors can expect to receive PCS orders with much shorter notice, depending upon operational needs. Sailors with questions about PCS moves can still contact their detailer for details, but NPC officials note that because each detailer handles an average of 1,500 sailors, response times will be slow. Personnel officials advise sailors to seek answers at the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of the NPC Web site: www.np.navy.mil, or by calling (866) 827-7672.
