Hundreds of Naval Construction Battalion Center Seabees received health and comfort items free of charge from a Defense Department-funded Navy Exchange (NEX) sponsored giveaway at Gulfport, Miss., Oct. 26. More than 200,000 pieces of merchandise were handed out to approximately 2,500 service members and their families in two and a half hours at the Gulfport NEX plaza. The packages contained 12,000 pairs of socks, 7,000 T-shirts, 6,000 cans of bug spray, 2,200 $50 gift certificates, and 2,900 pre-paid cell phones. Other items given away included antibiotic cream, band-aids, batteries, beef jerky, cereal, chapstick, deodorant, plastic storage bags, razors, shaving cream, shower shoes, soap, toilet paper and toothpaste.
