The Defense Department will provide the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee paperwork stemming from the official investigation into the Nov. 5 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in which 13 persons died and another 32 were wounded. The committee will receive the personnel file of Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who faces murder and attempted murder charges for the shootings. DoD will also provide the senators with a "restricted annex to the report," according to an April 27 announcement. The department will not provide access to witnesses or to investigative summaries, however, citing the need to protect the case prosecutors are working to prepare against Hasan. The committee had subpoenaed the Pentagon for the documents several months ago.
