Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Kit Bond, R-Mo., co-chairmen of the Senate National
Guard Caucus have gone on record opposing a possible change in Defense Department
policy that would allow repeated callups of Guardsmen and Reservists for up to 24
months at a time. Under the current policy, RC troops will not be activated for more
than a total cumulative period of 24 months.
