Reports of sexual assaults at the three military academies are rising, according to a recent report by the Defense Department’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office. The academies reported 80 sexual-assault cases during the 2011-2012 academic year, compared to 65 in 2010-2011 – a 23-percent increase. The statistics came from anonymous surveys of cadets and midshipmen. The report also showed a decline in sexual-harassment complaints at the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
