Chief Master Sgt. John Bentivegna has been selected to replace Roger A. Towberman as the next Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force. He would come to the position as the senior enlisted of the nation’s newest armed service branch from his current job – Chief Operations Officer and Enlisted Space Systems Operations Career Field Manager.

“I needed someone that would bring a perspective on our future that was articulated differently from mine,” Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman, who selected Bentivegna, said, “someone who could and would challenge my assumptions and ensure that important issues were evaluated from multiple angles and would catch things I missed.”

Bentivegna’s Air Force career began in 1994, and went on to serve as a precision measurement equipment lab technician at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. He transferred to the Space Force in 2020.
