Service members and veterans who were retained on active duty beyond their contracts between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 30, 2009, under stop loss have until Oct. 21 to submit their claims for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay. The deadline has been extended several times since Congress authorized it several years ago. However, the Defense Department says there will be no more such deadline extensions. Those eligible can collect $500 per month for each full and partial month they served under stop loss. Applications are available on each service’s Web site. Those without Internet access can fill out Defense Department Form 2944 and submit it to their respective service.
