Shoppers who buy groceries at military commissaries save an average of 30 percent over their civilian counterparts who use civilian supermarkets, according to a price-comparison study conducted last year by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). The survey took place during a 26-week period that ranged from the beginning of last year through June 22, and compared pricing on some 37,000 items at commissaries and supermarkets within commuting distance.
