The Marine Corps has bid farewell to Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 311 – a unit that has seen action in every major conflict since its pilots flew F-4U Corsairs during World War II. The service marked the unit’s end during an Oct. 15 Sundown ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona. Sometime next spring, the unit will reactivate as Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 311 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. The unit, which had been flying AV-8B Harriers, will transition to F-35B Lightning IIs.
