TRICARE, the military’s managed health-care plan, will conduct its annual open season Nov. 12-Dec. 10. At the same time, open season will take place for federal employees and those eligible for coverage under those programs.

For service members and federal employees alike, this is the one annual chance to change the health-care coverage they receive. Those who are satisfied with their coverage need not do anything, in most cases.
Here are some key issues to consider:

* TRICARE beneficiaries who want to enroll in a different TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select program can do so. They also can change the status of their enrollment — from individual to a family plan, for instance.
* For service members and retirees, the federal benefits open season affects dental and vision coverage. Retirees in the TRICARE Retired Dental Plan must enroll during the federal benefits open season.
* Those eligible for dental and vision coverage can enroll in a FEDVIP plan during the federal open season as well.
