The amount of money military members and civilian federal government employees can contribute to their Thrift Savings Plan accounts during 2011 will remain at the same rates as 2010 — $16,500. Catch-up contributions will also stay at the 2010 rate — $5,500. Thrift Savings Plan participants can lower their annual tax burden by contributing a portion of their annual income to their accounts, and deferring income tax payment on that amount until they draw money from the account upon retirement.
