With supplies stretched thin by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking blood donors. The Roll Up Your Sleeve 2022 blood drives, conducted in conjunction with the American Red Cross and America’s Blood Centers, is taking place through March. Donors can give blood whether or not they have been vaccinated for the virus, VA said.

“In an effort to continue to save lives, exercising [the blood drive] at this critical time greatly helps the department meet the need for blood and blood products in communities across the nation,” VA Secretary Denis McDonough said. “While we continue to focus heavily on the care of veterans during this challenging pandemic, blood donation is more important than ever, and its impact can result in as many as three lives saved through one blood donation.”

Two web sites – RedCrossBlood.org and Americasblood.org – can provide information about setting up an appointment to donate.
