The Department of Veterans Affairs intends to fire three senior staff members of its Phoenix (Ariz.) health care system. Associate director Lance Robinson, health care administration services chief Brad Curry, and chief of staff Dr. Darren Deering, would no longer work at the facility, once the process is completed. The Phoenix VA center has been in the forefront of a department-wide controversy ever since reports that veterans died while waiting for care there surfaced nearly two years ago. Since then, VA has implemented a series of changes at Phoenix and other facilities as well, aimed at improving the chances that veterans receive the care they earned while on active duty.
