The Office of Personnel Management has announced that it
received 4,704 applications for senior executive service
candidate program positions after a recent solicitation.
It said the program entails “intensive formal training,
competitive, real-life programs and mentoring
relationships,” and prior to graduation, candidates must
demonstrate leadership skills and agility as they
navigate actual programs and work through problems
while building teams and people skills.
OPM said it is currently processing applications and
that the program would strengthen succession planning
throughout government. Nearly 60 percent of the current
career Senior Executive Service corps will be eligible
to retire within the next five years.
