State Department officials have agreed to a number of corrective actions after they were called out for revising and reissuing a recruitment announcement to help a candidate get the job, the Office of Special Counsel has said.
"The prohibited personnel practice law is designed to protect the merit system against just this sort of improper shenanigans," special counsel Scott Bloch said.
OSC did not release the names of the employee or officials. State officials agreed to re-advertise the position, contact previous applicants to determine if they are still interested, as well as conduct additional training for subject officials and certain HR staff on proper hiring procedures, OSC said.
