Although OPM still has not issue its annual analysis of agency rankings of the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, individual agencies have begun posting their own results, following the pattern of higher-scoring agencies making greater efforts to call attention to them than lower-scoring agencies make.

The Office of Government Ethics for example has posted its results prominently on its home page, saying they show that the agency “has one of the most engaged workforces across the government.” Its employee engagement index score was 90 compared with the government-wide 72, while its employee experience index score was 86 vs. 73, and its performance index was 97 vs. 84.

DHS meanwhile posted its results on a data page, saying in a message to employees that the numbers show that “We have a great deal more to do for you. We recognize that some of our scores, including across some of our most challenging mission areas, remain low and even below the government average. We will continue to work to change this.”

DHS, which traditionally ranks near the bottom in most categories, said that its engagement score was 67, five points below the government-wide figure although up four points from 2022, and its satisfaction score was 60, up by six points but still six points below the government-wide average.

The SSA did not report its index scores, but said in a posting on a careers page that the questions with the highest positive responses “show employees feel held accountable for achieving results and producing quality work, are treated with respect by their supervisors, believe that through their work they contribute to the common good, and feel the agency prepares them for potential cybersecurity threats.”

It added however that “Our 2023 survey results indicate that performance recognition concerns represent a persistent challenge. Questions concerning reasonable workloads, performance-based recognition, involvement of employees in decisions that affect their work, and perceptions of senior leaders’ ability to generate motivation and commitment in the workforce represent the lowest positive responses.”

Other agencies reporting results include the Labor, Agriculture and Interior departments.
