Federal Manager's Daily Report

The Air Force has announced an accelerated hiring process for mid and senior level acquisition positions through 2012.

It said there are about 16,000 acquisition positions in fields such as financial management, IT, logistics, and science and technology management and that DoD authorized components to use the faster process in response to a shortage of acquisitions personnel, expected to cut the time to hire in half.

"The Air Force has seen a loss of experienced civilian employees due to retirements and other reasons and has been faced with critical skills gaps in filling mid-level and higher positions in the acquisition fields,” said HR specialists Michelle Siples.

"Across the DOD, the acquisition workforce was short and needed to be rebuilt," she added.

Under the new process, applications can be sent directly to the organization advertising the vacancy, which in turn can appoint the individual without going through more traditional, longer process.

Announcements are posted on USAJOBS, and individuals may also contact the nearest Air Force employment office to find out about openings.
