The Air Force soon will apply to its civilian employees a
career development approach used for its uniformed military
personnel, one type of reaction by agencies concerned about
preparing employees to fill the expected gaps in leadership
that will result with the pending wave of retirement of
older employees.
The “civilian career field management” approach is part of an
overall force development program that will align civilian
and military career fields in order to develop future leaders.
The initiative involves realigning civilian management to
provide a systematic approach to developing and sustaining
the service
