The Air Force has selected four bases out of ten it was initially considering to host the headquarters of its new Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center. The center will consolidate installation management functions currently being performed at every major command and will serve as the single intermediate-level headquarters for the delivery of installation support capabilities.
The candidate bases are Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.; Joint Base San Antonio, Texas; Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; and Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
The next step is to conduct detailed surveys of each candidate base, including an examination of operational and facility requirements and cost estimates for each. The Air Force plans to announce preferred and reasonable alternatives and continue the environmental impact analysis process (EIAP) through early 2015.
Once the center becomes operational it will encompass the Air Force Security Forces Center, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Air Force Installation Contracting Agency, Air Force Cost Analysis Agency’s Financial Management Center of Expertise, Air Force Financial Services Center, and the Air Force Personnel Center Services Directorate.
