Air Force hiring managers now have 15 days rather than 30 to choose a candidate to fill a civilian employee vacancy, under a program that is part of the mandate to speed up hiring.
The Air Force said that it previously had reduced the timeframe from 45 to 30 days, but that until recently hiring controls had prevented the further decrease to the 15 days. Those controls have since been mostly ended.
Hiring managers also have been encouraged to take a more active role from the beginning of the recruiting process to find the best candidates. In addition, a resource center for managers has been posted at www.managers.afciviliancareers.com.
The service said it filled some 6,400 jobs in the second quarter of the current fiscal year, with an average total time of 70 days. Other initiatives include a streamlined application process and new programs for onboarding new employees.
